The Evolution of Twinings

Did you know that in the UK around 165 million cups of tea are drank every day? Twinings® is an English tea brand with over 300 years of expertise in blending tea and remains one of the leading tea brands found in Europe. Twinings® has been producing exceptional black, green and herbal teas since 1709 and they are recognized the world over for their quality.

The Twining family originate from the county of Gloucestershire in the heart of the UK. Thomas Twining became a trader in early tea shipments. These shipments were later on route from East India where he imported many new and exotic tea products to the UK.

Thomas Twining sold the finest teas to high class London ladies who were eager to serve tea to their guests in their drawing rooms. In 1837, Queen Victoria granted Twinings® its first Royal Warrant for tea. Twinings® then had the honor of supplying tea to every successive British Monarch to date.

In 1910, the word had spread that Twinings® had the most sought after tea which resulted in a shop being opened in France putting the brand on the European map.

Following on from this success in 1922, Twinings® went on to blend its famous English Breakfast tea which is still available today almost 100 years later.

In 1956 Twinings produced tea bags for the first time.
